From the harsh and punitive Puritan beginnings of the “City on a Hill” to the colonial regime of Hancock, from the meeting places and publishing houses that fed the flames of revolution to the lesser-known haunts of rascals and writers who shaped our city this is a fascinating history you will not want to miss.
You will hear the story of the city’s growth with the wealthy merchants of Beacon Hill, follow rebels like Paul Revere, Sam Adams, Ben Franklin and John Hancock who took a town rife with anarchy and lit a fire that became a revolution which gave birth to a new nation.
The tour covers the boom of the 1800s from the gold-domed Statehouse to the rum-soaked dens of iniquity and violence in America’s greatest port, the migration of Irish famine victims, the Underground Railroad and the long fight of the Abolitionists against the tyranny of slavery.
We will meet the Boston Brahmin elite, African American Civil War heroes, writers like Emerson, Dickens, Whitman, and Poe forging the “Athens of America.” Charles Ponzi, the schemer, Mayor James Michael Curley, the Rascal King of Boston. See the love nest of the Kennedys and meet a Boston Jackass that stands and waits.

Step Into History on Boston's State Street
After roaming the world and the United States, I settled in Boston twenty-five years ago, where I instantly fell in love with the people, the town and its fascinating history, As luck would have it, I was gifted a library of the history of Boston going back to its earliest days. A novelist, journalist and voracious reader, I set about deciphering our past.
It is this passion that makes THE STORY OF BOSTON TOLD ON THE FREEDOM TOUR so rich. Not a history lesson, but a deep dive into the true story of our fascinating town.
I would love to have you join me on an unforgettable walk through historic Boston.
